Happy Monday!
I hope you all had a restful and relaxing weekend! I heard great things about the Halloween Party put on by the Parent Corps and I wish I could have been there. :) I look forward to celebrating Halloween this Friday with students and seeing their Halloween costumes! I am a huge Halloween fan (as you might guess by all the decorations in the classroom) and I can't wait for the kids to see my costume on Friday! If you have not brought in the permission slip for Friday, please do so.
This week we have begun learning about the Pilgrims' journey to the New World. I have lots of interesting books for kids on the Pilgrims and Wampanoags and I can't wait to share my love of these two groups! Third graders always love learning about the Pilgrims and Wampanoags and going to Plimoth Plantation will make this extra special! We will be going to Plimoth Plantation on Friday, November 6th. Cost is $19. I will take 4 chaperones with our class. Usually I get more volunteers than needed, so I will pick names from a hat to be fair. If your name isn't picked for this field trip you will get priority for chaperoning the next one. It will surely be a great field trip, but please make sure to bundle your child up that morning! We'll be outdoors most of the day and it can get chilly!
Today students received pedometers which were donated to our school as part of our wellness initiative. Students were extremely excited about this and looked for ways to get in extra steps throughout the day. I told them as exciting as they are, to make sure they take care of them, since they only get one and are responsible. Depending on how long we make them last I might have the kiddos keep a log and see how many steps we can get in. This would be a great math activity! :)
In case you missed it, teachers did the "Whip & Naenae" dance for students on Friday. If you'd like to see the video or if your child wants to watch it again, please check out the link below. We watched it in class on the Promethean Board while students danced along. There's a video of them dancing on the SJP facebook & twitter pages and I retweeted them. I strongly encourage you to follow our class on twitter! I have been posting lots of pictures of what's happening in 3b. I think even if you don't have a twitter, you can still look at ours.
